This structural steel project was executed for a major AI data center client, supporting mission-critical mechanical systems across both the North and South campuses of a high-performance, multi-building facility. PPB was responsible for the fabrication and installation of structural steel solutions that form the backbone of the data center’s infrastructure.
Scope of Work:
- Interior Pipe Support Steel:
Custom steel framing was installed within six buildings to support extensive interior mechanical piping systems. These supports were designed and built to meet the demanding structural and operational requirements of a data-driven, high-load environment.
- Exterior Piping Support Steel:
Structural steel supports were installed on the exterior of all buildings to secure exposed piping systems, providing durability, weather resistance, and long-term accessibility for maintenance.
- Chiller Platform Steel Structures:
Three heavy-duty steel platforms were constructed to support large-capacity chillers critical to the facility’s cooling systems. Each platform was engineered for load-bearing strength, vibration resistance, and seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.
- Cranes & Lifting Operations:
PPB utilized three different crane platforms to perform complex and high-precision lifting operations throughout the site. These crane systems enabled efficient installation in tight and challenging locations, minimizing downtime and increasing field productivity.
Challenges & Project Coordination:
One of the most critical challenges on this project has been coordination with the general contractor and other subcontractors. Ongoing scheduling issues and conflicts with other trades have led to delays and unplanned work, requiring PPB to continuously adapt in order to maintain project momentum. Despite these challenges, PPB has remained proactive, adjusting workflows, reallocating resources, and collaborating closely with site teams to overcome roadblocks and keep progress moving forward.
